Before starting his practice as sole proprietor in 1992, Robin spent five and a half years at a large architectural firm in New York City where he worked on a variety of projects including a shopping center in the Bronx, an office building for the MTA in Brooklyn, a boutique hotel in Midtown Manhattan and highrise residential. His current practice consists primarily of apartment renovations and combinations, along with the occasional new house, house remodel, retail store, storefront or office space. Robin has cultivated a varied list of clients including individuals, retail chains, real estate brokers, COOPS and, for over 20 years, the French Consulate in New York. "This broad experience has served me well as the building architect for a couple of COOPS in Manhattan and enables me to provide clients with a wide spectrum of services including feasibility studies, pre-design services, board and City approvals, project design & detailing and construction administration."
Through extensive work remodeling and combining apartments, Robin has become very familiar with New York City's building types, COOP & CONDO plan review processes, agency approvals and the construction process. "Dealing with COOP boards, property managers and City agencies can sometimes feel confrontational to the uninitiated. We've become quite adept at working with these parties and smoothing the approvals process."
In order to enhance his firm's efficiency and capabilities, Robin was an early adopter of CADD modeling software which allows for 3D visualization and provides greater drawing accuracy. The design and construction process is also streamlined by long term relationships with consultants and contractors. "For a project to succeed, all parties must work together as an effective team and making that happen can be challenging. Our ability to succeed at it consistently is in great part why new projects come almost exclusively from repeat business or recommendations from existing clients."
